Factors to consider when buying organic dog food
Dogs are primarily carnivores which means there are meat eating animals, so their diet should consist primarily of meat. More specifically high protein dog foods are highly beneficial for them in more ways than one. However, some dog foods may contain some unhealthy additives and biproducts that may harm your dog. That is why organic dog food is superior. And if you aren’t sure what factors to consider when buying organic dog food here are a few:
- Is the type of meat used specified?
Choose the brands that specify their king of meat. for example: Made with real beef instead of consists meat. Avoid vague or general ingredient descriptions
- Check for the organic ingredient label or in the description of the product.
- Check customer reviews. Often the best kind of indicator to the quality of a dog food is provided by actual customers who have tried it with their dog.

Yeah, I tested a little nibble. I was pleasantly surprised that the flavor was pretty good compared to big name brands I’ve sampled in the past. Dog loves it. She used to eat in segments (a little here, a little there) now she gobbles up an entire serving!
This is now my, and the dog’s, preferred brand and we are on our fourth bag. For the last two bags we have been mixing in Whole Earth Farms canned moist and the dog absolutely loves it. She gets 1/2 can mixed for breakfast and lunch. At dinner she gets only dry, and you all should see the look on her face. Lol as if she’s thinking “hey, where is the moist stuff?” She still eats her dry dinner though.
Thanks, Whole Earth Farms!

My puppy has been on this dog food since we rescued him in September. It’s a great food! I will admit I almost didn’t buy it through amazon because of all the bad reviews, but glad I decided against that! Amazon has an amazing price for this brand. It is exactly as the ones I bought in stores locally. It’s expiration date is far out and it looks fresh.
My dog hasn’t had any difficulty with this bag compared to the others. Now, saying this I want to explain how this is a HIGH PROTEIN puppy food. What that means is that puppies not used to this food will have diarrhea because of the protein. This happened to us for the first week. What we did was kid a cup of the food with a 1/2 cup of rice. This fixed this problem all together. 2 months later we stopped mixing rice in the food and have had absolutely no problems.

My dogs love this stuff. To be fair, I haven’t found a food that they don’t like, not a picky eater in the bunch, and this is no exception. The ingredients are decent, and all 3 of my dogs, aged from 4 years old to 14 years old, like it and are doing well on it. I mix it with a good quality canned food, and I also give them some cooked chicken and supplements for joints and skin/coat health. The ingredients for the price were the selling point for me.

My sweet and happy little pup has been eating this puppy food since she was old enough to eat hard food! She loves this brand and before she goes to bed every night, she takes a few little bites of her food and goes to sleep happy. It’s small and easy for her little teeth to crunch. Love this & her.
Our recommendations
We recommend that you try you puppy with the blue buffalo brand puppy food first if you are not sure which one to choose. Because it is such a recognized brand with over decades in the industry and most puppies are okay with it.
Here are some Important things to remember when choosing a new dog food for your dog or puppy:
- Try them with samples or a small amount first because each dog has unique taste and digestive systems
- When switching to a higher protein dog food gradually introduce it into your dog’s diet to reduce diarrhea and other digestive issues.
We recommend that you either speak with your vet about the best dog food for your puppy or go with a familiar brand. Try your puppy with a small amount of the selected dog food at first and monitor his/her reaction.
